Ecosystem, altitude, soil type, water availability, the level of degradation, surrounding environment.. These and many other factors determine which restoration methodology is appropriate and which tree species will need to be planted. font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">The planted\ntrees &#8216;re-capture&#8217; the site by shading out herbaceous weeds and re-establish a\nforest structure by developing a multi-layered canopy. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">As these 20 to 30 species only represent a\nsmall fraction of the forest ecoystem\u2019s species,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\"> recovery relies on birds, bats and other small\nmammals being attracted to the site, acting as seed-dispersers of other plant\nand tree species (Elliott, 2005).<\/span><\/p><p><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a8f7aed elementor-reverse-mobile elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a8f7aed\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-f1f2bc2\" data-id=\"f1f2bc2\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-34a10af elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"34a10af\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">ASSISTED NATURAL REGENERATION<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dc0f3cb elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dc0f3cb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In broad terms, ANR is to facilitate or assist the recovery of the site. For this to work, much of the intended tree species will already be present, or will have a high chance of finding their way to the site via natural dispersal mechanisms.<\/p><p>ANR does not include the planting of trees.
